What is STEP?

STEP is an international intergenerational program inspiring people of all races, genders, abilities and ages to bridge the generations through empowering conversations.

STEP's mission is to provide opportunities for people to learn and understand another person's value, no matter what age, to help grow a stronger community and world.

Founded in 2014 in Olympia, WA with 12 teens and elders. We were inspired by Squaxin Island Salmon Journey. One visit became a 12 week pilot program as the youth decided they liked talking more, and has continued ever since!

"I have hope for the future."

"I'm not afraid to talk to older people anymore."

"I learned that we have more similarities than differences. Elders have lived really interesting lives."

"STEP has given me another perspective in life and I am extremely grateful to be able to participate from another country."
